Communications and Social Behavioural Change (SBC) Assistant

Position Title: Communications and Social Behavioural Change (SBC) Assistant 
Duty Station: Dnipropetrovsk / Zaporizhzhia oblasts (with travel to programme sites, including non-occupied areas of Donetsk oblast as security permits) 
Reports to: Social and Behavioral Change (SBC) Officer (with functional support to Communications Officer)  

Duration: till the end of the project

Purpose of the Role 

The Communications and SBC Assistant will support the implementation of communications and behavior change activities under the programme “Better Care for Every Child in Community: Inclusive Learning and Protection, Rehabilitation, Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) for and with war-affected children in Eastern Ukraine.” 

The role focuses on assisting with posting public communications, visibility creation and support to the process to procure communications and visibility items and services, documentation, suppport to content development, visibility, and communication that reduce stigma and promote inclusion of children with disabilities and special educational needs (SENs). 

The Communications and SBC Assistant is encouraged to familiarize with the sustainable national systems strengthening perspectives in improving the child protection and inclusive education in Ukraine, since it is important to execute the daily tasks it is important to consciously making effort towards strengthening the sustainable mechanism for the best interest of children. 

Important: the Communications and SBC Assistant is encouraged to deepen his/her understanding of the Theories and strategies of ’Social and Behavioral Change1 ’Positive Deviance in Social norms’ and relevant framework for social and behavioral change. 

Key Responsibilities 

1. Support SBC Activities and Campaigns (under the SBC Officer’s guidance) 

  • Consciously promote disability and inclusion in all aspects of the work and tasks.  
  • Assist in the preparation and roll-out of SBC campaigns promoting inclusive education, stigma reduction, and disability inclusion.
  • Assist coordinating logistical arrangements for community events, parent clubs, peer learning forums, and awareness-raising activities.
  • Assist organizing Children’s Advisory Board (CAB) sessions, youth participation events, and child-led campaigns. 

2. Communications and Visibility (under the Communications Officer’s guidance) 

  • Assist drafting communication materials (brochures, posters, videos, social media content) in accessible and inclusive formats.
  • Assist in managing IEC (Information, Education and Communication) and HIT (Human Interest Tools) products, including Tik-Tok videos, community theatre, and other creative outputs.
  • Document programme stories, case studies, photos, and videos showcasing children’s voices, inclusive education, and protection efforts.
  • Support dissemination of visibility materials in line with UNICEF and Tdh guidelines. 

3. Community Engagement and Participation 

  • Assist facilitating communication between Tdh Programme staff and Programme partner “Step by Step”, schools, Inclusive Resource Centers (IRCs), and communities and OPDs and small-scale Community Based Organizations.
  • Assist providing support to children, parents, and teachers during SBC and communication events.
  • Assist mobilizing communities for inclusive education awareness sessions and positive parenting programmes. 

4. Support to Monitoring, Reporting, and Assessment  

  • Assist in collecting qualitative and quantitative data during KAP (Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices) surveys and community feedback sessions.
  • Assist maintaining records of SBC activities, communication outputs, and participation data (disaggregated by gender, age, disability, IDP status, etc.).
  • Contribute to reports, newsletters, and updates for donors, partners, and local authorities.
  • Assist Tdh colleagues in networking and seeking partnering with local community-based social support services to promote disability inclusion and behavioral change for inclusive education, such as, Day Care Center for Children with disabilities, Kindergartens, Physical and other rehabilitation centers, foster care families accommodating children with disabilities, parents group for children with disabilities, Organizations for People with Disabilities, Primary Health Care facilities, Hromada Department of Children’s Affairs, local transport services etc. 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Social Sciences, Education, or related fields.
  • At least 1–2 years of experience in communications, community engagement, or SBC-related roles.
  • Strong writing, editing, and visual communication skills (social media, photography, video editing an asset).
  • Familiarity with inclusive education, disability rights, or child protection is desirable.
  • Experience working with NGOs, community-based organizations, or local education institutions is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Ukrainian (required), good English skills; Russian is an asset.

  • Attention to detail: including spelling, grammar, use of standard format and delivery of support.
  • Community engagement: Ability to interact effectively with children, parents, teachers, and local authorities.
  • Creativity: Skilled in using digital tools and innovative approaches for outreach and visibility.
  • Collaboration: Team-oriented, able to support SBC Officer and work with partners and community stakeholders.
  • Child-centred approach: Commitment to inclusion, equity, and child participation.
