Joint efforts to reduce the negative impact of labor migration on children

CASTLE

Last week, together with our colleagues and partners from Moldova and Romania, we met at a conference in Bucharest to share best practices and experiences on improving the legal framework for the protection of children in labor migration.

This is the second time such a conference has been held. The first meeting was held in Chisinau, where the dialogue and cooperation between representatives of the public authorities of the three countries was launched. This time, the participants created a platform for discussing important aspects of transnational families involved in labor migration in the European Union.

Special attention was paid to the social and legal impact of labor migration on transnational families. Representatives of children's services and social policy departments from Romania, Ukraine, and Moldova shared their vision and recommendations for improving the protection of children in transnational families.

Also at the conference, we presented creative initiatives from young people from Ivano-Frankivsk region that reveal the positive and negative consequences of parental labor migration abroad, and became the voice of young people on this important issue. The work was conducted using our YouCreate methodology.

Our activities are carried out within the framework of the project "CASTLE - Children left behind by labour migration", co-funded by the European Union, under an agreement with ICMPD (International Center for Migration Policy Development) through the MPF (Migration Partnership Facility).
