Tdh is implementing the project "Supporting the Integration of Displaced Educational Institutions from Eastern Ukraine into the New Environment and Implementation of Psychosocial Support Approaches in the Educational Process", with the support of the project "Promoting Economic Participation of Vulnerable Groups, including Internally Displaced Persons, in Ukraine", implemented by the German Federal Company "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit" (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Government.
As a result of Russia's aggressive attack on the territory of Ukraine and active hostilities in Mariupol, all academic buildings of Mariupol University were destroyed. The university's entire material and technical base was destroyed.
The university was forced to evacuate from the temporarily occupied city to the Ukrainian capital, where it was located on the premises of the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture. Currently, the university is renting the premises of the academic building and is in the active phase of repairs and arrangement.
"Internally displaced universities generally do not have the necessary resources and equipment to continue their work. They lack classrooms, libraries, laboratories, and ICT equipment. Our project helps with the last one," says Yana Smelyanska, project manager at Tdh.
Thanks to the support of the GIZ project, Mariupol University was able to resume its strong academic activities and research work despite the difficult circumstances it faced.
With the support of the project, modern equipment, both general-purpose and specialized, was promptly purchased and delivered to the university. The editorial and publishing department of Mariupol University received a multifunctional heat press, a 3D printer, a rhizograph, multifunctional copying devices with related equipment, professional cameras with related equipment were purchased for the Information and Public Relations Department, a professional book scanner was transferred to the scientific library, and other structural units received a multifunctional device, etc.
As a result, students and teachers have access to the necessary resources and equipment to continue their studies.
"The use of the equipment has significantly improved the technical infrastructure of the university, in particular, in terms of ensuring the educational and scientific process and administrative functions, and has allowed us to fully restore and, in some respects, even improve the technical equipment of a number of structural units. We are grateful to GIZ for its support!" the staff of the displaced university says.
