Working hard for the well-being of children in Ukraine

It was a very productive day today!

After all, we held three events in one day:

  • training on first psychological aid for teachers of higher educational institutions from Mariupol, Berdiansk and Kyiv,
  • training on child protection in emergency situations for partners working in the social sphere,
  • and training on the methodology "Movement. Games. Sport" training for representatives of NGOs from five regions in western Ukraine.

Today we will tell you about the latter. At the training on the methodology "Movement. Games. Sport" methodology, we train future coaches, representatives of various NGOs, so that when they return to their communities, they can pass on this experience to people who work with children in educational institutions.

"This methodology was developed by Tdh, it includes many components, such as cohesion, it can work through conflicts, and it also covers the topic of inclusion," says Yana Moroz, psychologist and trainer at Tdh. By participating in outdoor games and team-building exercises, children can work on personal and social skills. And facilitators, in turn, as adults, will help them, guide them in this, and help to establish contact with each other.

"I often work with children and this training gives a lot of necessary knowledge when working with those who suffered from the crisis situation. The methodology we heard about today helps children to feel more relaxed, to express themselves in a playful way, to open up, to overcome their fears and problems. I plan to disseminate the knowledge gained among my colleagues. We will conduct trainings and work directly in the places of compact residence of IDPs, schools and in general with children who come from the occupied territories to Zaporizhzhia", - Vasyl Karnaushenko, facilitator of the CF "Posmishka UA".

"Our organization is relatively young. We have not worked with schools before. Therefore, we were happy to join the training from Tdh. We plan to implement it in small towns of our region, to work with teachers who are interested in this, to pass on to children the information that we have received," - said Olena Zinchenko, representative of the NGO "Volunteerism of Uzhhorod National University.

"We have little experience of working with children, but now it is very important especially in the conditions of war. Of course, without this training we would not be able to implement our activities to support children. This format has a creative and active approach, so it will definitely be interesting for children, it will activate them, it will be able to distract them from these terrible events", - Oleksandr Pylypenko, Head of the NGO "Platform for Social Interaction"

Our activities are carried out within the project "SMILE - Support for children and their families during Migration and Integration in new Local Environments" that is implementing with the participation and financial support of the Crisis and Support Center of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France.
