Active hostilities and aerial attacks throughout Ukraine remain regular events that maintain a state of insecurity and instability that affects the daily lives of Ukrainians in all its aspects. The situation is particularly difficult for children and young people, as schools are often targeted. This deprives students of access to full-time education, sports, and various activities they used to engage in before. The need for social interaction, mental health support, creative activities and sports are the most popular needs for children in Ukraine today.
Terre des hommes in Ukraine and partner organizations - Charitable Foundation "Dobrobut Ukrainy", NGO "Family Center You Too", NGO "Family Center Mriya" and Charitable Foundation "Sloboda UA" - will implement the project "ProAction - Psychosocial Support for Children and Families in Eastern Ukraine" in three regions - Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv, and will contribute to strengthening the psychosocial resilience and improving the protection of war-affected children, youth and their families in Ukraine.
We will work together with our partners to achieve the following goals:
- Strengthen the capacity of Tdh's local partners to implement quality mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) interventions;
- Provide psychosocial support to war-affected children, youth and their parents/guardians through MHPSS services;
- Create and equip 48 child-friendly spaces in three oblasts;
- Involve children and young people in consulting and decision-making processes regarding the functioning of the spaces;
- Strengthen the human resources and resources of existing social work systems to provide quality case management services to children, youth and families to reduce and mitigate negative coping strategies;
- Provide quality social services to children and youth at risk of harm and their families.
- Hire 18 social work specialists, train, equip and support their integration into community social services.
The project will run until January 2025.
The project "ProAction - Psychosocial Support for Children and Families in Eastern Ukraine" is implemented by five partner organizations - Terre des Hommes Foundation in Ukraine, Charitable Foundation "Welfare of Ukraine", NGO "Family Center You Too", NGO "Family Center Mriya" and Charitable Foundation "Sloboda UA" with funding from the Swiss Solidarity Foundation.
